About me
Margaret is a Structured Literacy Coach at Southwest Regional Educational Cooperative, working to drive student achievement for New Mexico Schools at all levels of school organization. Before she was a Structured Literacy Coach, she taught Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science for 29 years, kindergarten through 9th grade. As a teacher, she came to realize the importance of reflecting on her teaching, as a means to impact student achievement. She has experienced first hand how research based instruction can leverage student learning. As a Structured Literacy Coach she strives to assist teachers in developing their own expertise through reflection, finding solutions, and data informed teaching, leading to overall improved student achievement. She enjoys supporting teachers and administrators in planning and utilizing data to meet the needs of each student. Her favorite quote is “Informed teachers are our best insurance against reading failure. While programs are very helpful tools, programs don’t teach; teachers do” ~Louisa Moats.
