About me
Maria Hernandez serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Gadsden ISD, where she leads all academic programs and district-wide instructional initiatives. With over 25 years of dedicated service to the district, she has held multiple leadership roles, including teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and secondary director. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to educational equity and the belief that all students can thrive when supported by skilled educators and high expectations. Ms. Hernandez brings extensive experience working with English language learners. She holds two bachelor’s degrees from New Mexico State University in Foreign Language (Spanish) and Secondary Education. She also earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from NMSU and a second master’s in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University. In addition, she holds an administrative license, as well as TESOL, Bilingual, and English language arts endorsements.
