Dr.Nicky Mendoza, Chicana,Mexica-Azteca, and Isleta Pueblo descent, brings 25 years of experience in education across New Mexico, specializing in multicultural special education, bilingual/TESOL education, and the philosophy/psychology of education. With a background spanning elementary and secondary dual-language, bilingual, general education, and special education classrooms, Dr. Mendoza has served as an instructional coach, mentor, Indigenous-Native American liaison, and bilingual panel coordinator/advisor. She is deeply committed to fostering culturally responsive teaching and was instrumental in the creation of the New Mexico Indigenous Instructional Scope (NMIIS), a groundbreaking educational tool designed to support culturally competent and equitable education. Dr. Mendoza believes in the importance of exposing all educators to the diverse indigenous cultures of New Mexico, as this fosters greater understanding, respect, and cultural competency in the classroom.
