About me
Darlene Fortier is originally from the Boston area and moved to New Mexico 30 years ago. She started on her post secondary educational journey teaching art at her local YMCA in Boston and got hooked on teaching. Darlene has been recognized by Fine Arts for Children and Teens (FACT) for bringing art into the classroom as a means of self-discovery. Darlene is a Teach Plus NM Teaching Policy Fellow Alumna and a former Teach Plus National Research Fellow. She holds an AA in Education, a BA in Elementary Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading. She is a level III K-8 licensed teacher with TESOL and Language Arts endorsements. She believes children need to do to learn therefore, the students are the heavy lifters and she facilitates the process. When in a classroom, she teaches with a growth mindset, and her students work together towards the common goals of social/emotional wellbeing, as well as ELA and STEM proficiency. She has three grown children, and her hobby is making recycled jewelry
